I have lost between an Irish Setter and a gold brick. Fascinating! How much have you lost?

Because summer has already arrived in Texas, I am in my “off season” of marathon training. I needed to find something to supplement my runs with, and lifting weights (along with the elliptical & HIIT on the treadmill) has been that thing. In the last month, I have reduced the amount of miles that I run outdoors and increased the strength training sessions at the gym. I’m so very proud of the progress that I’ve made.
Strength training has brought out some kind of beast in me. I love the late Friday nights spent lifting heavy weights with the big guys in the gym. I love smelling God awful and dripping sweat. I can’t get enough of the soreness and the boost in metabolism. Running has done wonderful things for my spirit, but strength training makes me feel like some kind of warrior.
My only goal is to be healthy and feel strong! I have no idea what my body is capable of doing, but I can’t wait to see it get stronger every week.

this morning, brushing my teeth. As I was thinking about my breakfast options, I stopped. Wow. I really love eating this way. I look forward to my green monster smoothies and grape nuts cereal topped with frozen berries. This isn’t something that will ever leave me. This is what I breathe, eat, sleep, and do. This isn’t some crazy diet, or phase I’m going through. I love my body, and I love feeding it the fuel that will cause it to thrive! It felt great to sit with these thoughts for a few moments.
Be proud of your progress. Be aware of your capability.

Three years ago, my family and I went to the Houston Rodeo to see Taylor Swift. I was 20 years old. My little sister was 5, and my nephew was 4. Wow! So young.

I had just begun running in January 2009, and the rodeo was in March of that year.

I was in the middle of posting a big blog about my run in Dallas, and noticed how different I looked 2 years ago before my marathon training picked up in intensity. I’m so inspired!!!

Someone suggested to me on my vegan Twitter to watch the documentary Food Matters. I’ve heard about it a while ago, but I thought I had seen all I needed to see about why meat sucks in the documentary Food, Inc. After watching Food Matters, I can tell you it was worth it. You will not look at pharmaceutical drugs, the meat/dairy industry, or the fruits and veggies on your plate the same way after watching this movie. The best part? It was FREE to watch on NetFlix, if you are a new customer.
One of the many wonderful things the movie taught me was to drink water, and LOTS OF IT, right when I wake up. The movie suggests that in drinking about 2 liters of water before breakfast, this will cleanse your cells and detoxify them. Also, it will help move your bowels through so that your digestive system is ready to absorb more nutrients from the new day of food. New nutrients can’t get in if there are toxins/waste blocking their place. It makes sense right?
So, about a week ago, I began drinking lots of water – about 70 oz of it – right when I wake up around 6 AM. Immediately, I’m freezing cold, my stomach feels full, and I’m not so hungry. About an hour later, I eat breakfast.
Breakfast is usually Grapenuts cereal with cinammon + fruit. Or a smoothie.
I found that I was ready to have a poop session earlier in the morning. I also drank a lot more water throughout the day. And my pants are a little more baggy than usual! Damn this weight loss plateau!!!
I really am trying to stick to this water in the morning thing so that I can give y’all a more detailed result. I’ve also been eating more raw meals, because they give me so much more energy. I’m so excited about these new health changes and can’t wait to see how they affect my running performance and general health!!
Have you seen the movie Food Matters? Are you a water guzzler in the morning?
